Study with us and you could step into roles including designing, manufacturing, installing and testing anything from nanoscale robots to spacecraft. You’ll learn how to tackle engineering challenges in a range of industries.
Accredited by the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The programme is also accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The accredited BEng (Hons) will meet, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer and Students will need to complete an approved format of further learning pursuant to the requirements of UK-SPEC.
Course structure
This course will run over three years full-time, consisting of lectures, tutorials, assignments, laboratory work, quizzes, and project work, collaboratively supervised by research-led academics and industry engineers.

In Year One, you'll build a strong foundation in engineering principles, enhancing your understanding of behaviour, policy, entrepreneurship and global perspectives.
You'll engage in flexible educational models and explore essential mechanical engineering fundamentals. An option to study in the UK is available for the second year.
Year 2
Year 2
In Year Two, you’ll study advanced engineering topics including Engineering Mathematics, Mechanics, Mechanical Design, Mechatronics, Control Engineering, Thermodynamics, and Fluids.
You'll participate in practical projects and team-work to further develop your professional and technical skills.
Year 3
Year 3
In Year Three, you'll focus on applying engineering fundamentals to advanced topics with a problem-solving approach.
You'll complete a major individual project in your chosen specialisation and a group design study project, exploring commercial, legal, and safety aspects of product development.

Assessment
Learning and teaching methods will take the form of lectures, classes, case study work, online assignments and quizzes, presentations and self-directed study.
Work will be assessed via exams, coursework, presentations and a dissertation. To enrich your learning experience, our teaching is jointly delivered by staff in Dubai and the UK. Typically, each module’s preparation team consists of staff members across both campuses with at least the module leader based in the Dubai campus. You'll receive the same high-quality teaching and learning resources (lecture notes, tutorial sheets, video resources, example lectures, logbooks, etc.) and rigorous assessments (projects, coursework, assignments, exams, etc.) as your fellow students on the UK campus.
You'll have the opportunity to conduct projects under the supervision of staff members from either campus. You can also work on projects that are collaboratively supervised by staff members in other Schools within the University and with industry-based engineers, which significantly increases the type of project topics available. You'll also have the option to propose projects based on your interests during your final year project and in the coursework of some modules.

Entry requirements
To secure your place at the University of Birmingham Dubai, you must meet both our general entry requirements and the specific criteria for your chosen course. Your application will be carefully reviewed by the course’s Admissions Tutor, who will determine if you will receive an offer.

English language requirements
To study at the University, you must be able to demonstrate a good level of written and spoken English. Many applicants do this by submitting a recent IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE result, or by completing a Presessional English course.

The University tuition fee covers the cost of your tuition, examination, and graduation.

Paying your tuition fees
Tuition fees are payable for each year of your programme. To help you manage the cost of study, you can pay fees in full or in three instalments per academic year.
To secure your place, you must pay a non-refundable tuition fee deposit of AED 5,000 by the deadline stated in your Conditional Offer. This deposit will be deducted from your tuition fees.
Scholarships
Birmingham attracts the best and brightest students from across the globe. Eligible applicants are automatically considered for a range of scholarships following a Conditional Offer from the University of Birmingham Dubai.
