A History of Birmingham Medicine

Birmingham Medical School is delighted to offer this limited talk and tour to explore more than 200 years of the school's history.

What to expect

• Explore approximately two dozen objects on display in the foyer of the Medical School
• Enjoy a short walk through the main Medical School building in Edgbaston
• Learn about key moments in the School’s history, including the first woman to be appointed a Professor at the University and to be elected a President of a Royal College of Medicine, famous alumni and the experiences of students from many of its departments.

Do I need to book?

Yes. This event is free but ticketed. Please register for this event via the link in the top right of this page. There are limited spaces for this session, and it may sell out quickly.

Facilities and accessibility

The event will take place in the foyer of the Medical School. It will require some standing for talks in the main entry hall. Toilets are available on the ground floor.

Wheelchair access is available 50 meters to the left of the main entrance. 

The main Medical School building is across the street from the University rail station. Limited paid parking is available at the venue. Bicycle racks are on either side of the main entrance to the Medical School.
