Addressing health inequalities in UK maternity care in superdiverse settings

An interactive event exploring issues of care, power, and inequality, and to consider how practice and systems can respond differently.
People in a workshop

A community research project led by the Institute for Research into Superdiversity (IRiS) at the University of Birmingham and the Community Interest Research Centre (CIRC-CIC) explores maternity care in diverse healthcare settings, highlighting how women in the city of Birmingham, UK, often face barriers during pregnancy and childbirth, including language challenges, unfamiliarity with the healthcare system, and social isolation.

These lived experiences have been transformed into a powerful, co-created Forum Theatre performance. This interactive event invites audiences to step into real-life situations and collectively explore issues of care, power, and inequality, and to consider how practice and systems can respond differently.

This event is free and open to all, but please register using the link above.

The event will take place at Lecture Theatre, Welcome Centre (Level 5), Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
