Dates: 14th & 15th December

Timing: 09:30– 15:30

Venue: University of Birmingham Edgbaston Campus

Year Group: Year 12

Participation Requirements: An interest in documentary filmmaking

Interested in exploring how documentary filmmaking can be used to make a difference? GRACE International, Never Such Innocence and the University of Birmingham are teaming up to deliver a bespoke workshop designed for students interested in exploring documentary filmmaking as a tool for social change.

Over the 2-day event, students have the chance to learn key techniques in non-fiction filmmaking and production at the University of Birmingham, a UK Top 10 University for Communications and Media Studies. They will also engage in exclusive conversations with directors and contributors, who have real experience in the field, providing valuable insight and inspiration for students' own work.

At the end of the workshop, students should feel confident and equipped to produce their own short films, to be submitted to Never Such Innocence's International Competition ‘Through My Eyes’, aimed at understanding individual perspectives of war and conflict.

Participants should have an interest in filmmaking and social change. This opportunity would be particularly suitable for students studying film, media studies, politics, history or English. Please note that we will be exploring some sensitive topics related to war and conflict. While all content will be age appropriate, some issues discussed could be upsetting for some.

Schools can nominate a group of up to 10 lower sixth students for the workshop and groups will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, so sign up as soon as possible to secure your spot on the programme.
