The Birmingham cityscape in daylight.

Are we ready for a changing climate?

Inspired by the science of the Sun, The Exchange presents this latest lecture on University research into the effects of climate change in our daily lives.
The Birmingham cityscape in daylight.

From heatwaves and flooding to shifting landscapes, climate change is already shaping our daily lives. The question now is how we respond.

Emma Ferranti, Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of Birmingham, and Susannah Fisher, Principal Research Fellow at UCL and author of Sink or Swim: The World Needs to Adapt to Climate Change – But How? explore how communities, cities, and nations are adapting. Drawing on research from the West Midlands and beyond, they examine the tough choices shaping how societies cope with climate risk.

This conversation blends research and real-world stories, showing what adaptation really means - and why the decisions we make now matter for the future.
