A room of mothers and babies listen to a presenter reading a book.

A relaxed session for parents and carers to explore fascinating research while little ones play, feed, or snooze. Each session welcomes guest researchers to share insights on topics from child development to science, health, and society.

The Exchange offers a welcoming, accessible space with excellent baby-changing facilities. Come as you are - curious minds (and wriggly babies) encouraged!

Talk 1: Dr Alexandra Hendry - The power of play

Find out what we’ve learned about the different ways that parents can support toddlers to develop strong self-regulation and thinking skills through everyday play.

Talk 2: Dr Clare Macdonald - What happens (and what should happen) at the postnatal check?

Everyone who gives birth should be invited to a GP appointment about their own health at 6-8 weeks. Find out what we have learned about the reality of postnatal checks, how we can improve them and find out how you could get involved with our work.

Facilities & accessibility

We’re committed to making The Exchange as welcoming and accessible as possible. There’s step-free access and accessible toilets on all floors, plus a Changing Places toilet on the basement level. Guide dogs and assistance animals are always welcome. If you have any questions about access, just drop us an email at engage@contacts.bham.ac.uk.

Baby facilities

If you're attending with little ones, we’ve got you covered! A wall-mounted changing bench is available in both the ground-floor male and female toilets. We also welcome breastfeeding anywhere, but if you’d prefer a bit of privacy, there’s a baby feeding room available on the ground floor.
