Birmingham United: celebrating football in Brum

As part of International Day of Birmingham, this relaxed, hour-long event celebrates the city through its love of the game. We’ll hear stories, memories and reflections from people who experience Birmingham football from different perspectives – on the pitch, in the stands and within our communities.

Hosted by University of Birmingham alumna and Birmingham City fan PJ Ellis, the event brings together football fans, players and participants from across the city to explore themes of belonging, community and unity – from playing at grassroots level to supporting your team from the terraces.

Hear from Siraj Hussain, founder of Birmingham United, a foundation using the power of sport to bring people together and transform lives; Paul Delves and Sukh Singh from the BCFC Official Supporters Club; and Hijab Shah, a PhD researcher and podcaster exploring the relationship between race, identity and football.

And because no football conversation is complete without a bit of debate, we’ll finish by creating the Brummie Dream Team. Together, the audience will nominate a Birmingham celebrity for each of the eleven positions on the pitch to create the city’s ultimate starting XI.
