Join us on Friday, 5 December, 13:00 – 14:00 at the Cadbury Research Library for a fascinating talk by guest speaker Martin Killeen.

This talk looks at how, during WWI, the Edgbaston campus at the University of Birmingham was converted into a giant military hospital. Thousands of casualties, many suffering shellshock (PTSD), were treated for injuries ranging from loss of limbs to severe facial disfigurement. Using original photographs and surviving documentary records in the Cadbury Research Library and other local archives, the talk tells the story of how the region met the unprecedented challenge of caring for a generation of soldiers who suffered life-changing damage both physically and mentally.
