CBSO in the City

Settle in under Helios in the Banking Hall for an afternoon of stunning live music performed by a string quartet of CBSO musicians as part of their citywide programme.

What to expect

• A world-class string quartet of CBSO musicians will perform works by Dvořák, Adams and Montgomery in a relaxed cafe environment
• Experience stunning classical music in the glow of Luke Jerram's illuminated sculpture, Helios
• The programme will be in two halves with a break in the middle

"Jessie Montgomery's Strum has an expansive sound and explores motives and rhythmic layering throughout a journey that opens with nostalgia and concludes with feelings of celebration. Similar to his 'New World' Symphony (and written shortly after), Dvořák mixes African American Spirituals with the traditional Bohemian-Slavic folk music of his native land in his String Quartet No.12, making for a compelling musical landscape." - CBSO

Do I need to book?

No. This event is free for visitors, but seating is limited on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note that our cafe closes at 4.00pm.

We’re committed to making The Exchange as welcoming and accessible as possible. There’s step-free access and accessible toilets on all floors, plus a Changing Places toilet on the basement level.
