CrossCurrents launch night

- LocationThe Bond, Digbeth

In the opening event in the 2026 CrossCurrents Festival, ten years after the first ever CrossCurrents, we introduce the festival programme and present three performances across the evening, along with work from visual artists.
The evening starts with a performance from Manchester-based experimental, multidisciplinary artist, I Am Fya. Field recording, samplers, loop stations, and visual design come together to create a powerful live performance.
The New Music Ensemble perform Jennifer Walshe’s HYGIENE for solo strings, eight performers and visuals. A piece of performance art, the work will feature in NME’s stand-alone concert later in the festival.
The final performance comes from Birmingham-based DJ, Echo Juliet. An alumna of the Department of Music, Echo Juliet uses her first love of percussion as the defining element of her sound. The DJ and producer swapped her classical music degree for Ableton, a midi vibraphone, and decks. A friendly, yet formidable force, her DJ sets journey through deep house, global electronic, and warm sounds.
This event, and the wider festival brings together the Department of Music, University Music, Barber Concerts, the Centre for Electronic Music, and BEAST to enable us to present engaging, powerful, and thought-provoking performances and events throughout February and March.
