English Literature and History Taster Day

Designed to offer Year 12 students studying English Literature and/ or History a taste of university study. Schools can bring groups or individuals can attend

This will take place on Thursday 18 June 2026 from 10.30am-2.30pm. The event will be held on the Main Edgbaston campus.

Students attending can be interested in English Literature and/ or History. There will be options to choose from a range of English Literature Sessions or History Sessions or one of each. We offer a wide range of courses so these sessions may also include topics that are closely linked to these subject areas such as Film, Ancient History, Classics etc.

This is a free event and lunches will be provided. The event will include a walking tour of our beautiful campus led by current students.

You will automatically be allocated places if there is availability and you will receive email confirmation of your booking. If there is no capacity, you will be added to the waiting list. There is a maximum of 100 students allowed per school booking, please e-mail us to discuss bringing additional students: cal.outreach@contacts.bham.ac.uk

Booking instructions for Teachers:

  • Please confirm how many students you will bring along from your school/college below. There is a maximum of 100 students allowed per school booking. Please e-mail us to discuss bringing additional students.
  • We politely ask that you/the named teacher/staff member remain with your group throughout the event.
  • You will receive a booking confirmation email after completing the form. We will send you a schedule of the event closer to the date. This will include further information about the subject sessions.
  • Please indicate on the form how you will be travelling to the University campus. If you are travelling by coach, we will be in touch to discuss parking arrangements.
  • Please indicate whether any of your students have additional requirements that we can support with. We will do our best to make sure that the sessions are engaging for all.
  • The event may have to be postponed or cancelled if the minimum numbers are not met. If this is the case we will be in contact to let you know.

Booking instructions for students not attending with a school/college/sixth form:

Please note that by submitting a booking request, you are automatically agreeing to the following terms and conditions if your place is confirmed:

  • The event may have to be postponed or cancelled if the minimum numbers are not met. If this is the case we will be in contact to let you know.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure you have the relevant parental and school/college consent to attend the event
