History of the University of Birmingham Walking Tour

Developed by Dr Justine Pick in collaboration with the University Collections team, this brand-new tour offers an engaging mix of institutional history, the built environment and architecture, and research highlights.

The tour will finish at the exhibition, Largely in your hands: making and shaping a university, for those who would like to explore the history of the University through further objects and stories.

Do I need to book?

Yes. This event is free but ticketed. Please register for this event via the link in the top right of this page. Spaces are very limited and are likely to sell out.

Facilities and accessibility

This 90-minute guided walking tour of the University of Birmingham starts at 11:00 on Tuesday 15 September at The University Train Station.

The walking tour is approximately 2.2km in length and will be delivered using a portable wireless radio communication system to transmit live audio between the guide and attendees.

This tour is fully step-free throughout. 

Please note that the event takes place outdoors; attendees should bring water, wear sunscreen and hats or head coverings if sunny. The event will still go ahead if there is drizzle, but may be called off in the event of more severe rain.
