The Centre for Global American Studies and the Conjunctures NOW strand of the Stuart Hall Archive Project invites you to join us in welcoming Dr Brian Kwoba to the University of Birmingham to discuss his celebrated new book on Hubert Harrison (1883-1927) the Caribbean-born working-class journalist, activist, and educator who generated an array of visionary solutions to the systemic injustices of his day. The event will be led by Dr John Munro (Department of History), Dr Rita Gayle and Dr Nathaniel Adam Tobias (Department of Geography).
About the author: Dr. Brian Kwoba is currently an associate professor of history and the director of African and African American Studies at the University of Memphis. ‘Hubert Harrison: Forbidden Genius of Black Radicalism’ published by UNC Press, won the 2026 Frantz Fanon Outstanding Book Award from the Caribbean Philosophical Association.
