Information Day - Earth Sciences

If you're just starting to research universities, missed our June Open Day, or can't attend one of our main Open Days, our Earth Sciences Information Day is a great opportunity to discover what it's like to study at the University of Birmingham.

Designed for students interested in understanding our planet and tackling global environmental challenges, this event offers an early introduction to Earth Sciences at Birmingham. You'll have the opportunity to explore our campus, meet academics and current students, and find out how our research-led courses combine fieldwork, laboratory experience and cutting-edge technology.

If you're able to attend one of our full Open Days on 10 October or 14 November, we encourage you to do so, as these events include the full programme of subject talks, exhibitions and student experiences. Our Information Day is the perfect first step if you're beginning your university journey or are unable to attend an Open Day.

What to expect

Join us on campus for a relaxed and informative event where you'll:

• Meet academic staff and current Earth Sciences students.
• Learn about our Earth Sciences degrees and where they can take you.
• Explore our teaching facilities and laboratories.
• Discover how fieldwork is an integral part of your degree, with opportunities to study geological landscapes in the UK and overseas.
• Find out about placements, study abroad opportunities and careers in the geosciences.
• Ask questions and receive guidance to help you make informed university choices.

This event is ideal for students interested in:

• Geology
• Geology and Physical Geography
• Palaeontology and Geology
• Environmental Engineering and Geoscience

It's particularly suitable if you:

• missed our June Open Day due to the heatwave, travel disruption or school closures;
• are beginning your university research early;
• would prefer a smaller, more relaxed event; or
• are planning an early UCAS application.

Parents, carers and guests are also welcome.
