Insights into freelancing, portfolio careers and the gig economy

- DateThursday, 14 May 2026 (13:00 - 16:00) (UK)
- LocationAmos Room, Guild of Students, University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B15 2TU
Join our students and share your experiences, insights, and advice with them to help them grow their knowledge of the cultural, creative and community industries, and learn how to put it into practise.
Almost a third of the UK’s creative industries workforce, and nearly half of the cultural sector workforce, is self-employed. It is vital for our students to understand how to develop their talents as freelancers, seek and secure opportunities in a gig economy, and achieve a rewarding portfolio career, to flourish as successful self-employed practitioners, consultant or professionals in the arts, cultural, creative, heritage or community sectors.
This event will also give you the chance to meet, shape, motivate and inspire the next generation of talent across your industries.
Lunch on arrival, followed by chaired speakers and speed-dating style networking.
