Local councils often face a tough challenge: competing for limited government funding to support their communities. Join us to play a fast-paced game that puts you in their shoes and discover how decisions around place-based funding get made. Go behind the scenes to navigate strict criteria, varying objectives and tough competition to win support for your community.
The Game: Players will work together to choose a project to fund. The project must meet the aims of the majority of stakeholders within the perimeters of a central government fund. Each player will play as a chosen stakeholder to argue the case for their preferred project whilst navigating strict criteria, changes in circumstances and the wider need of the local area.
Book a 1 hour timeslot. The game takes a minimum of 30 minutes, depending on the number of players. With a minimum of 3 players required for each game, individuals can be teamed up.
This event is part of the 2025 ESRC Festival of Social Science Programme at the University of Birmingham. This event is presented in association with the Campaign for Social Science.
