Sociology in Action

An inspiring A-level Sociology day exploring today’s biggest social issues through expert talks, discussion and exam-focused insights.

Programme

We are delighted to be partnering with Education in Action to host a series of subject-focused academic events on campus during 2026/27 for GCSE, A level, IB and BTEC students.

What to expect

Take part in an inspiring and thought-provoking day that explores some of the most important questions about society today. Through talks from leading sociologists, academics and media commentators, students will examine contemporary social issues and debates, gaining fresh perspectives that extend beyond the A-level curriculum. The day also includes an interactive exam-focused session designed to support academic success.

Who is this for

This event is designed for A-level, IB and other Level 3 Sociology students who want to deepen their understanding of sociological theory, explore contemporary social issues and gain insight into studying sociology at university and beyond.

During this session, you will

  • Explore key sociological issues including globalisation, crime, youth violence, education, race, religion and the media.
  • Hear from leading sociologists, academics and researchers about their work and current social debates.
  • Examine how social institutions and cultural forces shape people's experiences and opportunities.
  • Investigate contemporary issues through real-world case studies and sociological perspectives.
  • Consider different theoretical approaches to understanding society and social change.
  • Develop a broader understanding of sociology beyond the classroom specification.
  • Gain practical revision, exam and study strategies to improve examination performance.
  • Engage with expert speakers through interactive discussions and question-and-answer sessions.
