Storytelling and Sculpture: beneath your feet!

Led by acclaimed storyteller and artist Cat Weatherill, this family-friendly event brings to life the fascinating stories hidden within the University's beautiful campus. Set against the backdrop of the striking Mining Department Heraldic Shield, families will uncover tales connected to the former Mining School, explore the meaning behind its motto, and discover the surprising role the model mine beneath your feet played during the Second World War.

Through imaginative storytelling and interactive exploration, Cat will weave together local history, campus heritage and stories of Birmingham's past, making them accessible and engaging for children and adults alike.

After the storytelling session, families are invited to continue their own sculpture adventure through the campus, home to a remarkable collection of artworks, including Birmingham's oldest public artwork, King George I on horseback and the half-man, half robot Faraday. It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, explore together, and see familiar surroundings in a whole new light.
