The Lapworth Museum's new temporary exhibition connects art and science in an exciting, innovative way.

The Great Thaw showcases the loss of the cryosphere as captured by artist Gennadiy Ivanov. Uniting arts and science, the exhibition encourages knowledge exchange and dialogue around glacier preservation and adaptation strategies. As part of the Transition Project, it highlights the powerful connections between artistic practice and scientific research.

About the artist

Gennadiy Ivanov is a UK-based artist. Originally from Belarus, and born in Russia, he graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts. He uses synthetic thinking and a wide range of techniques. This allows him to work simultaneously in several directions and styles. His paintings demand intellectual, as well as visual and emotional, effort from the viewer.

Ivanov works in a wide variety of media, including paintings, installations, drawings and photography. He attempts to bring these media together in a provocative collision. Ivanov’s work mines a territory not only defined by the viewer’s understanding of recent world political history, but expands into the flowing social veins of an underground style; this can embrace cultural and creative fields such as street art, fashion, and experimental dance and music.

The exhibition is free to visit.
