‘27: The Ferryman and his unwanted shades of the dead’

Percy Pursglove writes a thought-provoking suite which draws together the tragedy of a documented failed refugee channel crossing and the Greek mythological tale of Charon, the Ferryman and the journey across the Styx.
In reflection on this powerful new work the composer states: ‘As artists, we have no power to wield in initiating real policy change, but we can use our art and influence to shine a light on these issues and encourage those in power to search for real solutions. Although this is a very heavy and dark subject, we must somehow search for some joy in celebrating the memories of these fellow humans, and hope that their existence and ultimate sacrifice will allow others in the future to live better lives.’
