University of Birmingham Inclusion research conference

The University of Birmingham Inclusion research conference is being organised by the University’s Interdisciplinary Research Network on children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families, funded by the University of Birmingham. We will be showcasing inclusion/SEND research at the University in three of the University’s Colleges (Social Sciences, Medicine and Health, Life and Environmental Sciences). We are also using the conference as an opportunity to connect researchers at the University interested in Inclusion/SEND, and to engage with external partners and individuals especially in the city and region.
The key speakers (and topics) will be:
Amanda Allard, Director of the Council for Disabled Children – The changing Inclusion/SEND landscape and the role of research evidence
Dr Marie Murphy, Department of Applied Health Sciences, UoB – Health/nutrition in special schools
Professor Caroline Richards, School of Psychology, UoB – Meaningful measurement of outcomes for children with intellectual (learning) disabilities
Professor Amy Grove, Centre for Evidence and Implementation Science, UoB – Implementation science: Application to Education and Inclusion
Professor Susana Castro Kemp, School of Education, UoB – International SEND/Inclusion policy research
Professor Karen Guldberg, Head of the School of Education, UoB – Engagement in Inclusion policy and research in England.
Each will speak for 20 minutes, with 10 minutes for questions & comments. Refreshments will be provided on arrival, there were be a morning refreshment break, and a lunch after the talks are complete.
