The Centre for Professional Legal Education and Research is delighted to announce that Birmingham Law School has been shortlisted for a special pro bono award in the category of Best Contribution by a Law School
The awards, run by Law Works with the Support of the Attorney General, Jeremy Wright QC MP, recognise the outstanding pro bono work carried out by students and Law Schools across the UK. The winning recipient will be announced in an awards ceremony to be held in the House of Commons on 28th April.
The Pro Bono Group was founded by Dr Bharat Malkani in 2009, initially to provide Street Law presentations to community groups. The Birmingham Free Legal Advice Group, a LawWorks clinic model, was introduced a year later in collaboration with Mills & Reeve LLP to provide members of the public with legal advice across a range of legal issues. Under the stewardship of CEPLER since 2012, the Group has grown to encompass 200 student volunteer members supporting ten different projects, with the generous support of a number of law firms and other organisations, for the benefit of the local community.
