Strategic engagement in Brazil

As a strategic region of importance, we are investing in Brazil to develop purposeful partnerships and relationships that lead to enhanced collaborative research with leading universities, institutions and private organisations. The University of Birmingham Brazil Institute (UBBI) acts as the central hub of our engagement with Brazil, promoting academic cooperation, partnership and funding opportunities, and cultural initiatives.

For this second edition of the Brazilian Carnival on campus, UBBI proudly presents Celebrate Amazonia: Brazil Beyond COP30, a vibrant Brazilian Carnival celebration taking place from 2 to 6 March 2026.

Celebrate Amazonia marks the culmination of our flagship Engage Amazonia 2025 programme bringing together its three pillars — Immerse, Connect, and Celebrate. This special week highlights our shared responsibility for the planet, Brazil’s vital role in addressing climate change, and UBBI’s research and engagement with pressing global challenges. It also celebrates the impact, growth, and meaningful achievements that have emerged from our partnerships and programmes, and honours the Brazilian community in the Midlands.
