Student societies
Many nationality groups form student societies during their time at the University of Birmingham. This is an excellent way to keep in contact with home and also provides an opportunity to highlight your culture and customs in the UK.
Student societies are also a useful point of contact for prospective students to Birmingham who may want to contact current students for information.

Musavir Gajani, LLB Law for Graduates, 2011-13 “I was already sure that I have made the right decision by choosing University of Birmingham, and the experience I had here just added more to it. It has a beautiful red-brick campus where you have everything you desire for. The coffee at Starbucks and the yummy pizzas at Joe’s with student discounts await your presence. It has an advantage of being the only university in UK having its own train station, and I have found this to be the most helpful facility among others. The societies won’t let your talent go into waste, be it debating, mooting or MUNing. The extra-ordinary support I received from Employability Network in my CV building was remarkable. Our top-notch lecturers make harder things easy to understand, and they become even easier in seminars where we have to discuss the pros and cons of the established theories. The international student atmosphere is also very friendly and I met no hardships in becoming the Student Representative of my programme. Imran Khan, MSc Investments with Distinction, December 2012 "I chose Birmingham because it is a British Redbrick university having its own main line rail station. My time here was really a time full of surprises, inspiration and new challenges. I was really impressed by the beauty of the campus with a massive land covering the whole Edgbaston area and located very close to the Edgbaston Cricket ground and Bullring, which is one of the Europe’s largest shopping centre attracting tourists from all over the world.In terms of facilities, its main library is really helpful offering a huge variety of resources to students such as books, free Internet access, IT services, Journals, etc. Also, the academic staff is extremely supportive. Attending different workshops, seminars and presentations from guest speakers was worth appreciating. It’s a great honor to be taught by highly experienced lecturers with practical minds. Learning excellent research techniques from a world-class university such as Birmingham and applying them in practice was another fantastic learning experience for me.No doubt, the Learning and Sports facilities were simply outstanding and I really enjoyed going to the university’s Munrow Sports Complex for Swimming and Gym during my spare times. Besides, all the top brands including Starbucks and Costa are located inside the university. The Birmingham accommodation services were superb with well maintained rooms and provided free of cost services. Non-academically, some of my best memories of my time at Birmingham have included attending different Networking events organized by the Birmingham Investment Society, and attending formal dinners and balls at the Edgbaston campus. Meeting new International students was also the most enjoyable experience for me as I got to know their culture in more depth and most importantly, meeting students from Pakistan in the Pakistani Society has never made me feel as if I am away from my home country. All in all, studying at Birmingham really was a once in a lifetime experience and i will certainly never forget my time here."
