What is the discount for the award?

The Global Masters Scholarship provides a £10,000 tuition fee discount for approximately 40 academically talented students.

This award will be deducted from the total tuition fees owed by each successful scholar.

Who is eligible?

All taught Masters programmes are eligible for this scholarship, except for programmes in the Birmingham Business School.

In order to be eligible, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Have received, and accepted, an offer of admission for a taught Masters degree at the University of Birmingham UK Campus to study in the 2022/23 academic year.

Be classed as ‘domiciled’ in one of the eligible countries.

Be classed by the University as an overseas fee payer for tuition fee purposes.

Start their studies at the University in September/ October 2022 on a course delivered on-campus.

Have paid the standard £2,000 Admissions deposit by 30 June 2022.

Be academically exceptional and able to provide evidence for this in the scholarship application statement. Candidates should have, or be expecting to achieve, a first class overall grade (at least 70% in the UK system) in a bachelors degree or equivalent.

What does ‘domiciled’ mean?

Domicile means the country where you are habitually resident. It is not the same as nationality or citizenship.

In this context, being classed as ‘domiciled’ in one of the eligible countries means you must be a habitual resident in one of the eligible countries. 

Which countries are eligible for the scholarship?

Candidates must be classed as ‘domiciled’ in one of the following countries:

Are there any programmes not eligible?

If you decide to defer your programme start date to September 2023, you will no longer be eligible for this scholarship as it is only available for programmes with a September 2022 start date.

Students seeking to study on a course solely delivered as a ‘distance learning’ programme are not eligible for this scholarship.

Students applying for programmes in the Birmingham Business School are not eligible for this scholarship but are eligible for other separate MSc and MBA scholarships offered by the Business School.

How do I evidence my academic excellence in the scholarship application statement?

We are not prescribing how a candidate should evidence their academic excellence, it is entirely at their discretion.

This is a free text statement where the candidate can provide examples that concisely highlight their exceptional academic performance. 

Some examples may include: Academic prizes you have won, exceptional grades you have achieved, participation in nationwide academic competitions, evidence of being at the top of your class, etc.

When will I hear that the scholarship has been confirmed?

Once the deadline (30 June 2022) has passed, the scholarship applications will be collated, and the selection process will commence.

Successful candidates will be formally notified via email. 

The scholarship, applied as a discount to tuition fees, will be awarded upon enrolment of the successful candidates in September 2022.

How is the discount applied? Do I have to do an application?

To be considered for the scholarship and therefore, the discount, you will need to have made an application to your intended Masters programme and have received an offer of admission. If you have met the other criteria, you must complete our online application form, which will be made available very shortly.

If you are successful and are selected for the scholarship, the discount will be applied to your tuition fees upon enrolment in September 2022.

Is there a deadline?

Yes, the deadline to apply is 30 June 2022 at 23:59 (UK time / GMT+1) for September 2022 start dates.

Am I eligible if I already have a scholarship for my postgraduate programme?

Yes. This scholarship can be used in conjunction with another University-funded scholarship or other discount.

However, the scholarship cannot be in held in conjunction with a scholarship that provides a full 100% fee waiver / discount, provided by either the university or an external body.

Am I eligible if I have funding from anywhere else?

If you benefit from funding from an external organisation, you will still be eligible for the fee discount.

Am I eligible if I’m currently studying a Masters?

No, the scheme is not available to students already enrolled on a Masters-level taught programme. 

I am a UK / EU student, does this scholarship apply to me?

No. This scholarship is specifically for students who are domiciled in the eligible countries, provided they meet the other eligibility criteria. 

Does the course have to be full-time or does a part-time programme also qualify?

Only full-time taught Masters programmes qualify.

Do courses delivered remotely (online) qualify?

No. Courses advertised as solely being delivered as a ‘distance’ or ‘remote learning’ programmes are not eligible for this scholarship.

The programme must be solely delivered on campus.

I’ve already applied for a taught Masters programme; is the scholarship still available to me?

If you have already applied to a programme, you must wait to receive an offer of admission.

If you receive an offer of admission for the programme, and meet the other eligibility criteria, you can fill out the application form which will be available very shortly, in order to be considered for this scholarship. 

How do I apply?

This is a competitive scholarship and candidates who wish to be considered for the scholarship and therefore, the discount, will need to make an application to their intended Masters programme and receive an offer of admission.

If you have met the other criteria, you will then need to complete our online application from which will be available very shortly.

Please complete the form accurately and in full as any incomplete applications will not be considered and cannot be amended once submitted. Please only complete the scholarship application form once, as any duplicate applications will not be considered, and we will only review your first submission. 

If you are successful and are selected for the scholarship, the discount will be applied to your tuition fees upon enrolment in September 2022.
