At Birmingham we value the relationships we hold with international sponsor organisations. Below you will find guidance for supporting students in applying to and studying at the University of Birmingham for Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes.

What programmes do we offer? 

We offer a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to choose from under each of our 5 academic colleges:

Foundation programmes

Our Foundation Pathways offers an outstanding opportunity for international learners from 12 year education systems to enter the university environment one year before the start of a UK undergraduate degree programme. 

The 2 year International pre-Masters programmes in Biosciences, Economics or International Development and Relations, are designed to bridge the gap for students who who do not meet the entry requirements for our 1 year Masters programmes.

In addition we are also pleased to offer a PG Certificate in pre-Doctoral studies which is designed to prepare you for PhD study at the University of Birmingham.

Academic entry requirements

Birmingham welcomes applications from academically qualified students all over the world. Please see the relevant country page for specific academic entry requirements for applicants with qualifications from that country.

English Language requirements 

The Birmingham International Academy provides English pre-sessional programmes for students preparing to study at the University of Birmingham as well as offering English support for students already studying at Birmingham.

How to apply

New applicants should apply online through the following methods:

  • foundation applicants should apply to us directly by completing the online application form on the course page of the pathway they wish to study. If you complete the application on a student's behalf you do not need to supply a personal statement so just simply state ‘Sponsored Student’ in this section. 
  • undergraduate applicants should apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) website.
  • postgraduate applicants should apply directly to us through our website by looking up the relevant programme on the coursefinder and clicking the 'apply now' button on the relevant programme page.

Accommodation

At Birmingham we offer a fantastic choice of accommodation, all which provides a safe, secure and sociable start to your students' university experience. Accommodation is available for students at all level of study and you can find out more by taking a look at our accommodation website or by downloading the Accommodation guide.

Finance

In order that you can be invoiced directly for your students' tuition fees, please provide a Financial Sponsorship Gurantee Letter for each of them. These letters and any finance enquiries should be sent directly to our Student Fees Office: sponsorinvoices@contacts.bham.ac.uk 

Progress Reports 

We know how important it is for sponsor organisations to receive updates on their students and we are more than happy to provide regular student progress reports to meet this requiremement.

Please send all requests for reports to sponsors@contacts.bham.ac.uk with your preferred report template attached and the International Recruitment team will coordinate the completion of the reports by the relevant department.

Transcripts 

We are able to provide transcripts for undergraduate and masters students at the end of each academic year, as soon as results have been confirmed by each departmental exam board in June/July. Please email us to indicate whether you would like to receive transcripts.

A PDF and paper copy of each transcript will be issued to your nominated contact. 

Visits

We encourage you to visit our campus and to take a look around and see the facilities for yourself. Not only can we arrange tours but we can also arrange meetings with the International Recruitment staff or academic departments as well as with your registered students on campus.

Alternatively we can visit you at your offices in the UK or overseas as part of our recruitment events.

Visas

Students wil need to contact the International Student Team (IST) for advice on applying for visas and visa extentions. Please note that the ISAS team will need to speak to the student directly to provide advice and support.
