The University of Birmingham library has received a donation of over three thousand books on Islamic Studies.
The gift was made possible by Dr. Omar Fallatah, a former professor at the University of Taiba in Saudi Arabia.
The books cover major subject areas such as: Qur’an, Tafsir, Sunnah, Hadith, Fiqh, Arabic language and literature, Islamic history, Sufism and comparative studies. Some of the titles are new editions and new printing format of classical sources, conference proceedings from around the Arab world and published theses on various aspects of Islamic Studies.
The University of Birmingham offers an MA degree in Islamic Studies that focuses on classical Islamic religious thought, contemporary Islamic movements, feminism in the Muslim world, history of Christian-Muslim relations, Islam in Diaspora, Islamic history and the principles of Islamic jurisprudence.
This year, the University is launching a new Masters in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics which introduces students to key issues in bioethics, including those of genetic development, reproductive technologies, commodification, and research in the developing world.
Several students from the Middle East are currently studying a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at various departments within the University of Birmingham.
