A formal opening of the Advanced Materials Laboratory recently took place at The University of Birmingham, School of Chemical Engineering.
The event showcased the considerable research expertise and facilities available from the Birmingham Science City Research Alliance to an Industrial audience that included companies such as Aston Martin, Jaguar Land Rover, Unilever, Proctor and Gamble, 3M, DuPont, Sandvik.
The Advanced Materials Project is part of a larger investment by Advantage West Midlands and ERDF in the research infrastructure of the West Midlands region, which unites the University of Birmingham and the University of Warwick in a strategic research partnership – the Science City Research Alliance (SCRA) – originally formed under the Birmingham Science City initiative.
The event was created to stimulate interaction and support the development of relationships between the industrial participants and key Academics from across the Universities of Warwick and Birmingham.
Dr. Tim Clipsham, Senior Technologist, Morgan Technical Ceramics, commented, ‘I am sure many positive interactions will come from contacts made between industry and academia as a result of this event’.
