Postgraduate student Holly Ellis has been granted ESRC 1+3 funding for her MPhil and PhD.  She will be researching the impacts of and interactions between the lobbying campaigns of the Council for the Representation of Women in the League of Nations and women's labour in Ghana in the interwar period.

Holly says, "University of Birmingham is really the only place I could do my PhD. I am particularly interested in exploring the disparities between these Western first wave feminists' views of African women's labour and how Gold Coast women themselves understood their own labour expectations in the face of fundamental social transformations stimulated by colonial rule. This topic may change when I come to do the PhD but it will definately be the focus of my MPhil dissertation."
