Professor Chris Baker, Director of the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education, has been invited to become a member of a United Nations Expert Group on Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation for International Transport Networks.

The Group of Experts will make policy recommendations to the United Nations that aim to improve the long-term sustainability of international transport and set best practice examples of national policies that address the issues of transport networks vulnerability amongst member Governments, including developing and landlocked countries. The group will also identify potential climatic impacts on transport infrastructure and met for the first time in September 2011.
