Professor Helen Beebee has been awarded a grant under the AHRC Emerging Themes and the Cross Council programme Connected Communities
Helen’s project focuses on the recent debate about the general question of how or whether neuroscientific discoveries should prompt us to reconsider the legal system. It will address issues of whether we act freely and whether the purpose of punishment for criminal acts should be conceived as a matter of retribution or rehabilitation. This project therefore aims to explore the extent to which three-way collaboration between philosophers, lawyers and neuroscientists can shed additional light on these questions.
