An international workshop on alternative concepts of God was held at Winterbourne House and Garden at the University of Birmingham on the 19th and 20th of July, 2012.

The workshop was organised as part of a three-year project entitled "Exploring Alternative Concepts of God", which is directed by Yujin Nagasawa (Birmingham) and Andrei Buckareff (Marist College, USA) and funded by the John Templeton Foundation. The goal of the workshop was to create an opportunity for philosophers of religion to discuss alternatives to the classical concept of God, such as pantheism and panentheism, which deserve greater attention in the literature.

Nagasawa and Buckareff will also publish an anthology which includes some of the papers presented at the workshop. Speakers at the workshop, comprising proponents and critics of the alternative concepts, included: John Bishop (Auckland, New Zealand), Peter Forrest (New England, Australia), John Leslie (Guelph, Canada), Michael Levine (UWA, Australia), Ken Perszyk (Wellington, New Zealand), Marcel Sarot (Utrecht, Netherlands), Sarah Coakley (Cambridge), Willem B. Drees (Leiden, Netherlands), Victoria Harrison (Glasgow), Robin Le Poidevin (Leeds), Brian Leftow (Oxford), Hugh McCann (Texas A&M, USA), J. L. Schellenberg (Mount Saint Vincent, Canada), and Eric Steinhart (William Patterson, USA).

Some of the participants were interviewed for the PBS TV series 'Closer to Truth'
