Having gained a first class degree from the School of Biosciences, graduate Tung Le joined the John Innes Centre (JIC) / The Sainsbury Laboratory PhD Rotation programme in October 2007. Following his rotation year he joined one of the JIC labs to work on the molecular basis of resistance to the antibiotic simocyclinone in the producing organism Streptomyces antibioticus.
His outstanding work at JIC has recently been recognised by his being awarded the 2012 John Innes Foundation Prize for Excellence in Scientific Research. Professor Jeff Cole, his tutor at the School of Biosciences remembers him fondly, commenting "Tung was a truely remarkable student. I am delighted that his move to the JIC was such a success for everyone."
