
The Athena SWAN Charter promotes and rewards good practice in the recruitment, retention and progression of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) subjects. The University of Birmingham obtained a Bronze Athena Swan Award in March 2012 and Civil Engineering obtained its own Award in September 2013.

The principles embodied in our Athena Swan commitment are owned by the whole of the Department and monitored closely by a working group.
