Dr Shelley Godsland recently gave an invited lecture at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Entitled 'Gender and Detection', the lecture explored the aims and limitations of female engagement with a range of crime and detective genres.
The lecture attracted a sizeable audience of faculty and students. Many of the students have been acting members of the United States military, and their unique insights into and views on issues of gender and violence led to a fascinating discussion at the end of Dr Godsland's talk. Dr Godsland was invited to Austin Peay by Dr Osvaldo di Paolo of Hispanic Studies, and her visit was supported by the Hispanic Cultural Center, the Languages and Literature Department, and the Women's and Gender Studies Program. Dr Godsland is seen in the image with Professor Jill Eichhorn, Director of the Women's and Gender Studies Program.
