The book focuses on contemporary theatre in the UK and especially on representation that radically redefines the interrelationship between aesthetics and politics, examining the work of leading contemporary playwrights. Considering how formal experimentation and thematic boldness have been crucial in the contemporary period, the book traces how we have observed a return to the spectator through text-based theatre that is immersive in nature and works to produce strong sensory and intellectual response.
