Lecturer in Food Microbiology
PhD in Food Microbiology from the University of Nottingham. Interested in microbiological investigations addressing industrial problems and challenges including the improvement of food quality, safety and applications of nanotechnology.
PDRF Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Joined the Centre for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research to improve the life of metallic bipolar plates of fuel cells in the field of European funded collaborative project (STAMPEM). More than 10 R&D years’ experience working for Tecnalia in the frame of private and European projects related with advanced batteries, fuel cells, tribology and plasma coatings.
“I have just completed my PhD in Chemical Engineering, which focused on supercritical fluids technology, and am currently employed as a research fellow on a collaborative project with the University of Warwick and the University of Tsinghua, China investigating the use of supercritical water cycles in coal-fired power stations and their suitability for use in the UK energy generation market. As a part of the School of Chemical Engineering, I have also been involved with the delivery of a large number of undergraduate modules over the last 4 years, and have participated in collaborative research with Spanish and Japanese researchers, which culminated in my spending two months as a visiting researcher at the University of Tokyo in Kashiwa, Japan.”
Dr. Emilia Nowak
Emilia’s research interests include interfacial phenomena, bubbles/droplets coalescence/breakage, intermolecular/surface forces, capillarity, surface/interfacial energies, adhesion/cohesion and wettability. She has been involved in the work of Microstructure Group at Birmingham were she was trying to develop methods to simulate the processes occurring in human gastrointestinal tract by applying the principles of formulation engineering.
Dr. Geraldine Oliveux
Research interests in the field of recycling and remanufacturing of composite materials with the objective to study and develop recycling and remanufacturing of composite materials until industrialization. During her PhD, Geraldine studied the recycling of composite materials by hydrolysis at high temperatures and pressures
Research interests lie in the use and development of environmental benign methods with focus on biomass valorisation. The use of subcritical water as part of an organosolv method to hydrolyse lignocellulosic biomass (Miscanthus x giganteus) in a biorefinery point of view was the basis of his PhD research project. Currently, as part of the research fellowship project Ricardo is optimising the extraction of natural products from lignocellulosic biomass using supercritical CO2 as a green solvent.
