The University of Birmingham is throwing open its doors next weekend to welcome the public to its annual Community Day on Sunday 9 June.
A hugely successful event over the last three years, this is a chance to explore the historic green campus, enjoy a selection of exciting activities, and learn more about what the University is doing – from cancer research to opening a new University Training School.
Activities will include bungee-trampoline, real robots, build-your-own-bridge, culture trails, design your-own-dinosaur, zumba classes, rocket making, acapella singing performances, give-golf-a-go, morris dancing, book giveaway, farmers’ market, life-saving, video making, personal portraiture and much more. Unique to this year, don’t miss the hydrogen barge, located at the canal next to the train station.
Eleanor Leftwich, Events Officer, said, “Community day has proved hugely popular since it started in 2010, and we hope that this year will be no different. With over 150 activities taking place across the campus, there really is something for everyone to enjoy. This is a great opportunity to come and explore the campus and find out what the University is doing for people here in the Midlands and around the world.”
The University’s unique heritage attraction, Winterbourne House and Garden, the geological collections in the Lapworth Museum, and its very own art gallery, The Barber Institute of Fine Art, will also be open and running a selection of workshops and activities throughout the day.
Community Day is taking place at the University of Birmingham on Sunday 9 June from 11.00am – 4.00pm. For more information, please visit the Community day website. You can also follow the event on twitter at @uobcommunityday
Entry to Community Day is free to all visitors, although there will be a small charge of £1 for Winterbourne House and Gardens
