This year, the event has involved approximately 800 PhD students from Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Ireland, New Zealand, UK and USA. The original entry has been narrowed down to just 17 students, from which an overall winner will be selected by an international panel of experts.

This year, the event has involved approximately 800 PhD students from Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Ireland, New Zealand, UK and USA. The original entry has been narrowed down to just 17 students, from which an overall winner will be selected by an international panel of experts.
First developed by the University of Queensland in 2008, the Three Minute Thesis competition (3MT®) challenges research students to communicate the significance of their projects to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. The competition encourages students to develop their research communication and public engagement skills and there are generous research bursary prizes on offer.
