Professor Kristján Kristjánsson from the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues, discusses evidence that Year 10 children in both private and state schools appear to be scoring lower than is ideal on some traditional values such as honesty and courage. The on-going claims that the focus on exam results and league tables in state schools underlies the lack of character development is seen as a distraction. In conclusion, Professor Kristjánsson would prefer to see practitioners and academics discussing these issues together to try to work out how to teach and measure morality instead of engaging in 'finger pointing'.
