Mike Roden talks about his background and the plans for the new University School

Work has started on the buildings of the new university school this month which is due to be opened in September 2015. In the Birmingham Post, Mike Roden talks about his background and why he was chosen for the role as principal of the school. He also discusses the links the school will have with the School of Education and the University of Birmingham.

Most of all, he said he wants to see the school help all children to achieve their potential

Don’t feel this school isn’t for you, no matter what your background. I come from a modest background and I feel so fortunate. If it’s the school for me, it’s got to be the school for you.

The value of an education is not how much money you earn, it’s what impact you make on the lives of others. I really believe that. These pupils will be creating history
