Professor Charalampos Baniotopoulos, Chair of Sustainable Energy Systems and Director of the Resilience Centre in the School of Civil Engineering was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), last month.
Professor Charalampos Baniotopoulos, Chair of Sustainable Energy Systems and Director of the Resilience Centre in the School of Civil Engineering was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), last month.
The honorary professorship is the highest academic title awarded by the University and Professor Baniotopoulos is the first Professor of Civil Engineering to be recognised by the prestigious accolade.
The Jordan University of Science and Technology is the country’s most well-known University and one of the Middle East’s leading institutions. A world-renowned teaching and research centre for science and technology, JUST is one of the most advanced and professionally orientated universities in the region.
The research focuses of the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Birmingham align closely with the priorities of JUST and Professor Baniotopoulos has been connected to the Engineering department there for 25 years with continued collaborations. He said: ‘I am delighted and honoured to receive this prestigious accolade. I believe it further strengthens the link between our two Schools and contributes to improved exchange and collaboration, providing new opportunities for student and staff exchanges as well as exciting new research projects.’
The ceremony took place at the Amphitheatre of the JUST on Sunday 27 April 2014, following the CESARE’14 conference for Civil Engineering for Sustainability and Resilience, organised by Professor Baniotopoulos.
