Birmingham hosts 2015 UK-China Smart Grid Workshop

The University of Birmingham hosted the 2015 UK-China Smart Grid Workshop, organised by Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering [CSEE], China Electrotechnical Society (CES) and co-sponsored by China Institute on Wednesday 9 September 2015.

Supported by major UK and Chinese funding bodies, UK-China research collaboration has accelerated since 2013.  Research collaborations span from distribution system operation and planning, energy storage, electric vehicles, HVDC, to energy markets and energy policies with a total funding of £12m from UK EPSRC and matching funding from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) for the participation of Chinese partners.

The 2015 CSEE UK-China workshop brought together UK and international leading experts from research and industry to review research progress, identify key research achievements, successful collaboration models and ways to ensure research impacts both nations.

The workshop was chaired and organised by Professor Xiao-Ping Zhang, Director of Smart Grid of Birmingham Energy Institute. Keynote speakers will included:

• Professor Xiaoxin Zhou, Honorary President of China EPRI of State Grid Corporation of China, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fellow of Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering (CSEE) and Fellow of the IEEE
• Professor Ruomei Li, Senior Advisor and Former Secretary General of Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering (CSEE)
• Mr Yi Han, Deputy Secretary General, China Electrotechnical Society (CES)
• Prof Zhqian Bo, Deputy President,  Chinese Society of Electrical Engineering (CSEE), UK Branch
• Professor Furong Li, University of Bath
• Professor Jihong Wang, University of Warwick

• CSEE was established in 1934 and is a non-profit, non-governmental academic and professional organization of scientists and engineers in the electrical engineering field. CSEE aims to promote and popularize science and electrical engineering technology, promote the growth and advancement of technical professionals, and enhance integration of science, technology and economy.
