Organised by Dr Jagbir Jhutti-Johal from the Department of Theology and Religion, with her fellow commission members, the University of Birmingham consultation sought young people’s views on the role of religion and belief in society and drew interest from students from across the country as well as our campus, who participated in a series of focus groups addressing questions such as, Are religions, beliefs and philosophies of life simply a private matter? Or are they important in our country’s public life – the law, the education system, the media, local and central government - and if so, in what ways?
