A group of students from the Schools of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering were victorious in the Engineering Challenge at the last National Engineering & Construction Recruitment Exhibition in November 2014.
A group of students from the Schools of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering were victorious in the Engineering Challenge at the last National Engineering & Construction Recruitment Exhibition in November 2014.
Teams of two to six students were invited to enter the Challenge, which remained unknown until the day, and provided them with the opportunity to demonstrate their technical and team-working capabilities to employers.
The Birmingham team of Syed Islam (Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering), Mandeep Singh Narwal (Mathematics), Stelio Antonas, Prasai Balasubramaniam, Jasdeep Singh and Munir Suleman (all Mechanical Engineering), were required to build a wind-powered vehicle, which was tested over a set distance in a wind tunnel. The team’s unique design passed the finish line in 6.22 seconds, beating the University of Warwick in second place with a time of 10.40 seconds, and winning them the prize of £500.

This is a big achievement for us in a national competition and we feel happy and proud to have won.
