Eva Jamnik - internship Pertemps, West Bromwich
Eva Jamnik, a first year Accounting and Finance student, spent her summer working as a branch intern in West Bromwich. Eva spoke to us about her experiences this summer and what she has gained from working within a recruitment firm.
As a first year, I knew that trying to find an internship could be a challenge. However, as Pertemps were open to applications from first year University of Birmingham students, I thought that this would be a good opportunity to apply for some experience.
In one of my degree modules, I had studied recruitment and human resourcing and I had found this module really interesting. I was delighted to receive an internship as it has allowed me to explore this area further.
I work within the Commercial Division and my duties change daily. However, some of my tasks involve speaking to clients and candidates and connecting them to the right consultants, uploading their details and contacting their referees. I have also been given more tailored projects from my manager, such as client and candidate auditing, marketing surveys and weekly newsletters. I’ve also had the opportunity to sit in on candidate interviews. My role keeps developing as my manager is keen to give me experience in areas I find interesting.
This role has developed my confidence, both over the phone and in-person. From observing clients, I have learnt so much, from how to communicate professionally to how to think on your feet. My attention to detail, accuracy and speed have also improved as I have had over 100 registration files to audit in a timely manner.
This role has taught me that although I am looking for a career which involves analysing numbers, I have enjoyed advertising, market research and auditing. I have gained an incredible amount of people skills and I know that this will be helpful with any finance related path I choose to follow. I genuinely enjoy going to work each morning and my colleagues at Pertemps have been so friendly and willing to help. They have supported me a great deal. Pertemps’ company culture is friendly and supportive and it is very clear that they invest in their own workers and clients.
I would really recommend an internship with Pertemps. It has given me a real insight into the workings of a successful recruitment agency and has taught me a lot about business and sales.
