Final year students studying Higher Cognitive Functions enjoyed a trip to the zoo earlier this semester.

The specialist final year optional module asks students to consider the abilities of human and non-human animals to understand time, causality and others' minds. The School's local zoo, Twycross, is the only place in the UK where visitors can see all types of great apes (including Chimpanzees, Bonobos, Orangutans, and Gorillas).

As well as the great apes, students were able to observe monkeys and elephants, who also make an appearance in the Higher Cognitive Functions course. Observing the animals' behaviour gives the students new ideas for the research proposals that they write as part of the assessment for this course.
