Twenty Birmingham Business School MSc students were selected to participate in a Leadership Development Programme. On Monday 8th June Nicky Griffiths, Partnership Manager at UKTI presented the students with a two day challenge to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the city.
Twenty Birmingham Business School MSc students were selected to participate in a Leadership Development Programme. On Monday 8th June Nicky Griffiths, Partnership Manager at UKTI presented the students with a two day challenge to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the city.
The students received mentoring from: Yuen Wai Leung – Business Development Executive at Marketing Birmingham; Denise Barrett - Creative SpIN Programme Manager, Birmingham City Council; Hannah Usher - Business Excellence Manager, National Express ; Dan Day - CEO , PlusMinus; Aidan Lawrence , General Manager at Tesco PLC; Ronnie Versher, Former Associate Marketing Director, University of San Francisco.
MSc International Business student, Guilherme Machado, described his experience of the programme:
It has been a challenging experience, but great that we have been a part of a small number of students, with a variety of activities covering the different parts of business. It has also been very valuable that we have had feedback throughout the activities.
Aidan Lawrence, General Manager at Tesco PLC, acted as one of the mentors. The Birmingham Business School Alumnus said:
It has been great to be involved with the bright and dynamic Postgraduate base of Birmingham Business School. All of the groups produced great digital presentations, using technology to market their products effectively, and I was really impressed with what they turned around in just 2 days. It was a great collaboration with the UKTI and I would love to see us continue to build networks and partnerships with local businesses and industries. The students involved in this programme have great futures ahead of them.
The region achieved a record inward investment performance in 2014 (Business Birmingham). After two days of intensive research and analysis, the students presented promotional videos on FDI into the key areas that form part of Birmingham’s “economic zones”. The team behind the programme look forward to working in partnership with UKTI and Marketing Birmingham on future programmes.
