The School had over 950 applications for just 200 places in the Sixth Form, which will specialise in traditional academic A Level subjects including maths, science and English literature.
School Principal, Michael Roden, said: “We are all looking forward to our new Sixth Formers starting their A Level and wider educational programme in our groundbreaking School.
“We were inundated with applications for place in the Sixth Form at this, the first 11-18 University Training School in the country, and following the GCSE results being announced, we will be delighted to meet our prospective students again. We also encourage students who meet our entry criteria and wish to be considered for a place to visit us as there may be a small number of places available for those who did not receive a conditional offer.”
All students with a conditional offer are required to visit the School on Weoley Park Road on GCSE results day, Thursday 20 August before 4pm, with their results to convert their offer into a place. Students without an offer are encouraged to visit between 8am and 4pm on Thursday or 8am and 11am on Friday to register their interest for a place if one becomes available.
To enter the Sixth Form at the University of Birmingham School, students need to have achieved at least 5 GCSEs in any subject at Grade A*-B, a minimum of GCSE grade C in English Language and Mathematics (even if these subjects are not being studied beyond GCSE) and A grades at GCSE in the subjects they wish to study at A level (A* for Further Mathematics).
Students who hold an offer of a Sixth Form place but wish to change the courses they have been offered a place for should also visit the School to find out if their new choices can be accommodated in the timetable.
Students whose grades match the entry criteria but do not currently hold an offer of a place will be given priority if they were on the initial School waiting list, followed by those who applied late and did not receive an offer. These students will be contacted by Monday 24 August to be told if they have gained a place at the University of Birmingham School.
