The Centre for Applied Psychology at the University of Birmingham hosted its first Research Conference on 5 September 2016.
Originally initiated by former trainee Dr David Evans, this was a really exciting and informative event presenting a range of qualitative and quantitative research projects together with some mixed methods. Held at Bournville College, Longbridge, it was a collaboration between the three West Midlands Clinical Psychology course providers: Staffordshire, Coventry and Warwick, and Birmingham. The conference provided an opportunity for trainee clinical psychologists to present their doctoral research and in total 60 people attended. Delegates included course team staff, experts by experience, local clinicians and trainees from all three courses, and the standard of presentations and research was brilliant.
The feedback was very positive and it was so successful that it has been agreed that this will be an annual event, and the venue will be hosted in turn by the three local course providers.
Many thanks to Professor Kim Shapiro for helping to support this event and to all of those trainees who attended.
